Un poema para los que siempre están ahí

Acabo de encontrar esta hermosa poesía, y no he podido evitar dejar caer una lágrima al acordarme de mi cachorro Bronx, y de lo mucho que le sigo queriendo aunque pasen los años. Creo que todos echamos de menos a alguien, sea una mascota, un familiar o un amigo, y me apetece compartir con vosotros este poema. Espero que os guste tanto como a mí.

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep,

I could see that you were cryin... you found it hard to sleep. 

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear.

"It's me, I haven't left you... I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here".

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea.

You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, your arms were getting sore.

I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care.

I want to reassure you that I am not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key,

I gently put my paw on you. I smiled and said "it's me".

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.

I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you every day

to say to you with certainty, "I never went away".

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...

In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over.... I smile and watch you yawning

and say "good night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning".

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,

I'll rush across to greet you and we will stand, side-by-side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.

Be patient, live your journey out... Then come home to be with me.

Me quedé al lado de tu cama anoche, vine a echar un vistazo.
Pude ver que estabas llorando... te resultaba difícil dormir.
Te aullé suavemente mientras tú te quitabas una lágrima.
"Soy yo, no te he dejado... Estoy sano, estoy bien, estoy aquí".
Estuve cerca de ti en el desayuno, te vi servir el té.
Estabas pensando en las muchas veces que tus manos me buscaban.
Estuve contigo hoy en las tiendas, tus brazos estaban doloridos.
Anhelaba coger tus paquetes, desearía poder hacer más.
Estuve contigo hoy en mi tumba, te ocupaste de ella con mucho afecto.
Quiero tranquilizarte y decirte que no yazgo ahí.
Caminé contigo hacia casa, mientras dejabas caer tu llave,
yo puse delicadamente mi pata sobre ti. Sonreí y dije, "soy yo".
Parecías muy cansada, y te hundiste en una silla.
Intenté con todas mis fuerzas hacerte saber que yo estaba ahí.
Para mí es posible estar tan cerca de ti cada día
para decirte con certeza que "nunca me marché".
Te sentaste muy callada, entonces sonreíste, creo que lo supiste...
En la quietud de esa tarde, yo estaba muy cerca de ti.
El día ha acabado... Sonrío y te veo bostezar
y decir  "buenas noches, que Dios te bendiga, te veré por la mañana".
Y cuando sea tu hora de cruzar esta breve separación,
yo correré hacia ti para darte la bienvenida, y estaremos juntos.
Tengo tantas cosas que enseñarte, hay tanto que debes ver.
Sé paciente, vive y disfruta de tu viaje... y luego ven a casa para estar conmigo.
